In my opinion, one of the most interesting musical phenomena of the past one to two years is the ongoing story of Israeli Psytrance duo Vini Vici. After years of continuous success on Beatport and gigs worldwide, Vini Vici are back in 2017 with Great Spirit, an uplifting collaboration with Armin van Buuren and French band Hilight Tribe, which has got live support by artists like Hardwell and W&W.
Being on a worldwide summer tour again, Vini Vici just closed out EDC Las Vegas’ famous Circuit Grounds stage with a sunrise set, gigs at Tomorrowland, Creamfields and AMF are confirmed.
Vini Vici is a project of Aviram Saharai and Matan Kadosh, who have been producers for over a decade. Their sound combines the old school Trance sound and Progressive and Tribal elements.
How is it possible that a Psytrance act is that popular in the mainstream in times of scraping Bass House and heavy Trap drops? I want to give some answers.
Collaboration with Armin van Buuren
Obviously, having a collaboration with an artist like Armin van Buuren gives you a lot of attention. Great Spirit has been released on Armin’s label Armind (Armada), the official upload on his YouTube channel has over 11 million views. Armin’s big Trance fanbase might have been really happy about the release too, since his Trance productions are rare. Maybe this gave the track even more attention.
Vini Vici’s tracks are catchy
Vini Vici tracks are very catchy and can be used as DJ tools to animate a crowd. Vini Vici often work with spiritual vocals and easy sing-along’s, which bring an amazing crowd reaction (as you can see in the EDC video above). This is the reason why artists like Hardwell and W&W play the tracks in their sets, though the huge tempo difference to their own music… (Vini Vici’s tracks usually have up to 138 bpm)
Vini Vici could be a countermovement on slower genres
Vini Vici could be the start of a new Trance wave, which would be very interesting. After the huge popularity of slower genres like Tropical House, Bass House and Trap, real Trance could be back on the world’s mainstages soon. However, it is too early to predict a new trend… Let’s see what future brings… 😉
